ADMIN: Anonymous comments

Against my better judgment, I'm going to try meeting my readers half-way and will experiment with allowing anonymous comments -- that way, you DON'T have to have an IJ to respond. Please note, I've still got the IP log turned on AND all anonymous posts are screened. After bad experiences in the past, I feel I'm taking a chance now, and this is as far as I'm willing to go.

I would appreciate it if people would identify themselves, even if they post without logging in, just so I can get to recognize those who are actually reading, but of course that's up to you. If all I get out of this are rude comments that people wouldn't have the nerve to post if they had been logged in then I'll probably end up turning anonymous comments off again.

ADMIN: Is common courtesy dead?

If anyone reads my posts on Yahoogroups, you'll know I've been sick. I'm feeling a lot better today, and since I'm still on vacation (even if I spent half of it in bed, boo), I'm ready to start posting again.

The only thing is, I'm wondering if it's worth it. The virus isn't the only thing I've been dealing with -- I've got really bad wrists which I thought was just an off-shoot of my hypothyroidism, but is now starting to look like carpel tunnel. My right wrist especially is pins-and-needles ALL the time, and sometimes the whole arm aches. This is especially not good since I need my hands for work (for those who don't know, I'm a Work@Home agent for a call centre -- I type in orders all day.)

I used to think that pain wouldn't stop me from writing, but some days, it's hard to motivate myself through it. The only thing that might encourage me to try harder is getting some actual RESPONSE to what I post.

My readers who DO respond regularly, I'm not talking to you -- I appreciate so much the time you take to actually let me know you've read and enjoyed something, even if it's just one sentence to state that. I'm talking about the hundreds of people who haven't even bothered to Friend this journal but are obviously keeping track of it (those counters I put on my chapters aren't just for show -- they're URL-specific and simply loading the journal doesn't add to the numbers. You HAVE to click on the fic link to do it.) I can see through those stats that there are people from all over the world reading my fics regularly, but most of the time not ONE can be bothered to give even a 'thank you'?! That's rude at best.

So what do I have to do to get encouragement around here? Make all my posts filtered, so that only those who have replied faithfully in the past get to read them? Make the whole journal Friends Only, forcing people to Friend it who MIGHT be reading, even if even most of my Friends don't bother replying most of the time, either?

I understand if you're just here for Changechildren or the older series' and not reading anything else -- I wouldn't expect you to reply to fics you're not reading, or to fics you've replied to in the past that are being re-posted. But if you READ something for the first time and enjoy it, SAY something! Reading regularly but don't have an InsaneJournal? No excuse -- they're free, go sign up for one.

I shouldn't have to hurt myself posting while getting nothing back. That's just wrong, and could result in unwelcomed changes around here.
